[Patient Story] Gastric Band didn’t work, Insomnia, Joint Pain, No Energy to 19kg Weight Loss

She was chubbier than the other girls in high school. She couldn’t lose weight after having her girls.

And as soon as she hit menopause, she was eating like a bird, exercising, doing everything right, and gaining weight.

She was bigger than ever.

Two years prior to coming to us, Sadie decided to have the gastric band.

The protein shakes didn’t help her lose weight before surgery.
Six months post-op, she hadn’t lost weight.
One year post-op, she still didn’t lose weight.
Two years post-op, she called us.

Nothing was working.
We were her last hope after all the right diets, exercise, and surgery.

We went through Sadie’s Medicare pathology, and she had some big explanations for the weight loss resistance:

  • Her CRP was over 12.
    Her body was very inflamed.
  • Her HbA1c and fasting glucose were within Type 2 Diabetes levels.
  • She was struggling with Fatty Liver Disease.
  • She had high blood pressure and was on medication for it.

The biggest driver of the liver issues and insulin resistance was largely due to her high inflammation.

We put Sadie on a very specific nutrition plan: Telling her what to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. How long to wait between meals. And she needed supplementation to deal with her high inflammation markers.

Within a month, Sadie lost three kilos! She couldn’t believe her eyes. Her energy had increased. Her body was lighter.

And she physically couldn’t eat as much as we wanted her to.

Sadie’s pain was persistent. But as her inflammation came down, the weight came off, and the pain lessened.

Inflammation and insulin resistance go hand in hand. As estrogen lowers, inflammation and insulin resistance increase.

Many women worry they are becoming like their mother or father. Genetics do have a lot to answer for – and start to kick in after menopause.

Six months after working with Sadie, she had lost a total of 15 kgs. It was not as fast as we had hoped.

But her inflammation was still a little too high.
Her CRP came down to 7.4. Her cholesterol came within normal levels. Her fasting glucose came down to lower levels. There was something still going on.

We decided to do a genetic test on Sadie so that we could isolate and quickly resolve why the weight loss and inflammation were moving so slowly. What we found was fairly remarkable.

Sadie’s genes unpacked a lot of answers:

  • ADIPOQ rs2241766 – Homozygous GG doesn’t break down fat properly – impaired glucose metabolism
  • IL6-rs1800795 – Pro-inflammatory cytokine: This gene explained why INFLAMMATION is HIGH.
  • FADS1 – Heterozygous: Prone to high cholesterol
  • ACE1 G2350A rs4343 – High blood pressure genes
  • Low absorption of keystone bacteria
  • Poor metabolic function

The awesome part in knowing this was we had the opposite key nutrients required by her genetics to counteract her metabolic disruption.

Sadie’s genetic results were some of the worst combination of genes we have seen for women. Most women have one or two of these genetic SNPs that cause metabolic problems, but poor Sadie had them all.

The nutritional changes Sadie started made a massive impact on her weight loss because she took her body out of high pressure and high cortisol by not eating and trying to fast all the time!

But Sadie needed more micronutrients to help remedy the situation.

Sadie’s IL6-rs1800795 genetic SNP was increasing her pro-inflammatory cytokines, which naturally increase after 40.

But she was getting a double increase effect because of her genetic SNP, which is why her CRP was so high.

Within nine months, Sadie lost 19 kgs, and she’s still going.

She went from 91 kg to 72 kg.

She still would like to lose an additional six kilos and is still working on it, but she’s really happy with her results.

Today, Sadie knows what she needs to do on a daily basis to
feel good,
sleep well, and
feel calm during the day.

That’s been the biggest game changer for her!

By the end of treatment, Sadie:

  • No longer had fatty liver levels in her blood work
  • Had a healthy fasting glucose level
  • Was sleeping through the night
  • Had energy throughout the day
  • Improved her cholesterol markers
  • Improved her blood pressure markers
  • Significantly decreased her inflammation

The best part is that Sadie knows how to read her pathology and understands what to do to live her best life and stay healthy.
