[Patient Story] Fatigue, Chronic Weight Gain, 5 years after menopause & coming off HRT… (Test Results Inside)

Hello,

FIVE kilos.
That’s the national medical recording average of expected weight gain, that will not go down after menopause.

Many women just want the symptoms to stop during peri-menopause and menopause.

The weight gain is bad, but the need for something to deal with the waves of symptoms throughout the day makes many women beg for things like HRT, birth control, and IUD or a Merina.

The reality is that menopause and peri-menopause is just a season.

And whilst the medical solutions that support

  • the excessive bleeding,
  • extreme mood changes,
  • fatigue,
  • poor sleep,
  • pain, aches,
  • itchy skin and/or
  • hot waves

can be helpful during these times, the idea of coming off them can be very scary.

About 70% of our patients come to us because they are having difficulty losing weight.

Birth control and hormone replacement can actually increase weight gain and fluid retention.

But the fear of functioning without something without HRT, for so many women, is much scary.

That’s why I wanted to walk through the journey of resetting the metabolism after menopause and how our patients lose weight, come off medication, and get back to their “old self.

Meet Christine.

She started her treatment with us the first week of December last year.

She was 56, had gone into menopause at 50 and was desperate to get her energy and waist line back!

She’d put on 15 kilos between 45 and 53 and it wasn’t budging.

She was a healthy eater. Did yoga three times a week, walked nearly every day and was very conscious with her food.

But, the weight wasn’t budging.

She had experienced a horrific menopause.

She had..

  • flooding periods,
  • intense brain fog and difficulty concentrating
  • developed a haetial hernia
  • joint pain,
  • poor sleep

to name the key things.

At 47, she decided to put in the Mirena and start HRT.

By 50, the doctors had ran her blood tests and let her know she was on the other side and it was time to take the Mirena out. She stayed on the HRT.

Christine is a nurse by trade and she felt she’d really done everything she could do.

By the time Christine came to us, she knew that it was time to come off the HRT, but she was really was concerned about gaining more weight or feeling more tired.

She was feeling waves of fatigue throughout the day and was really struggling to keep up with her being on her feet.

She wasn’t ready to decrease her work load and wanted to keep going. She was only 56 and felt like she just was missing something.

She was right.

She had just recently been told her cholesterol was getting too high and if she didn’t get it down, she’d need medication soon. (image below)

Christine’s liver and kidneys markers had stopped healthy detoxification, but were not so inflamed that she needed medication.

INSULIN & BLOOD SUGAR

Her Blood Glucose level indicated that Christine was experiencing Insulin Resistance. (image below)

Her Treatment Path was Simple, FAST, & Inexpensive

Christine didn’t need heaps of supplements and a expensive functional testing.

We identified that she needed just a few supplements to help with detoxification pathways and thyroid function. We were able to make the majority of changes through a customised nutrition plan based on her blood work.

Christine’s Blood Glucose markers indication her insulin had turned on fat storage.

She also had markers that showed her HRT was helping reduce her joint pain. And we needed to reduce the inflammation in her body, so that she could come off HRT without incurring increased fatigue or joint pain. (image below)

Christine’s Nutritional Plan

Christine dropped her insulin, improved thyroid metabolism & she started losing weight quickly.

  • Within a month, Christine dropped five kilos. This was the fastest weight loss she’d experience since she was in her twenties.
  • Nearly nine weeks later now, and she reported she was done 12 kilos (since the begging of December) and was so tickled.

Not all food is equal…

For Christine, we matched her blood results with her nutritional blueprint.

Within four weeks, she had reset her metabolic hormones including her insulin, leptin, and thyroid hormones.

Her body came out of fat storage, and into fat burning.

It’s like the metabolic switch was turned on.
Her appetite completely changed.
She wasn’t having any cravings.
She didn’t want for food.

But best part, her energy was through the roof!
And her pants were loose which made things even better.
